Wellbeing Mindfulness and Practical Therapies

This section is not about practising Yoga or Guided Meditations. What I want to discuss here are the practical therapies we can complete on a daily basis. This is about being absorbed in an activity that allows us to switch off, or should I say allows our inner voice to quiet down.

Sewing, or Stitching, whether by hand or on a machine takes concentration. Not only do we get to practise mindfulness through being absorbed, our focus leads us to create something too!

So, whether you like to crochet, knit, do some dressmaking or bag making.

Thank you sewing group for letting me take these pictures!

Finding a sewing club or class near you will pay dividends for your wellbeing. Whether you choose to focus on your craft or engage in conversation with like-minded people, a sewing club can be rewarding on so many levels.

” I could not sew a stitch until I joined a class. I learned how to sew, how to quiet my mind, focus on the task at hand allowing myself to be creative too.   Who would have thought?” Pictures of some of my makes are on the Facebook page and Instagram if you want to see.

Gardening is another. This one has a more meaningful effect on those who are really unable to switch off and relax. Again, getting out into the garden is clinically proven to lower blood pressure relieve anxiety and foster calmness. Here in the UK is is also on the list of activities the NHS prescribe to patients along with handicrafts like sewing and painting (Social Prescribing)

Me proudly showing off the very first items I ever stitched. A bag and a matching purse.
